The cell phone industry has come a long way in the last 10 years. Always looking for improvement, manufacturers have made the phones smaller, sleeker, and packed with other features. Expanding into new markets, they have started making kids phones and targeting young teens. They can market to both the teens and the parents with this strategy.
Texting has become extremely popular with teenagers and manufacturers are scrambling to release phones that are easy to text with. They are quick to realize a new feature that can sell millions of phones and the texting phenomenon is one such feature. Teens need cool phones so they can be accepted in the right social circles and be part of the in crowd.
Some of the phones meant for teenagers might have cameras on them or include a GPS locator. They will have texting on them for older teens, as that is the most used feature. That way, the parents don’t have to worry about their child running up the minutes and getting a huge bill.

Many parents want their young children to have a cell phone for safety reasons but they fear what will happen if they give them a regular one. The prepaid aspect of a kids phone alleviates that fear and makes getting a cell phone for your child a much easier decision. Whether a cell phone is indeed a good thing for a child to have is a debate that many disagree about but having it prepaid is a good way to go if your child must have one.
